Trip to iPerintis

First and foremost, many thanks and gratitude go out to Madam Azmawati and iPerintis namely the Head Of Department and the many staff who graciously welcomed and assisted us during our visit for giving us an opportunity to visit their company. It was indeed an inspirational visit being able to experience the real working environment of an Instructional System Design (ISD) company.

Our day began with a brief introduction by the Head Of Department.Various aspects were touch upon including the company's impressive portfolio and their list of existing clients. The most fascinating part was their public "Cloud Envinronment" server which enables the company to keep in touch and manage all their clients' data. They also have created a Private "Cloud Environment" system for their main client "Petronas".There was also a brief preview on their new software called "Sum Total".It was described as a core system of records, from a single vendor created for improved business intelligence.

Next up we had the Project Manager.A concise explaination about how they manage projects was given. They apply a content development methodology called ADDIE for short.(Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation). This methology was initially taught in class and it was interesting to see it in real practical working environment. We could see the real use of the method and its adaptation in theory into ongoing projects. The Project Manager mentioned that they are very particular in evaluating every stage of the process so as to be able to keep tract with the clients demands and requirements and to attend to any rectification immediately. It is definately a safer option especially when dealing with huge companies such as Petronas.

ISD companies such as iPerintis face many challenges on a daily basis with project development and they have to continuously strive to overcome them in a comprehensive manner.Among the difficulties faced, meeting the clients requirements would perhaps be at the forefront. The client is always right and in the course of the project there are bound to be changes and rectifications that come about very abruptly which require urgent attention.Providing quality projects and ideas is also a very big burden in this day and age as there are many competitors in the market currently.iPerintis has a complete and strong team to meet this challenge.

It is also hard to visualise the clients expectations. As mentioned earlier their visions may change as the project is being carried out and modifications need to be done.As such iPerintis need to be versatile in their approach. There are also issues pertaining to vendors who are instrumental in carrying out the projects that have been planned and many problems may arise from vendors who may be executing the projects.Constant coordination and communication is essential in this aspect to ensure that the clients specifications are met correctly.

The session was concluded by a small pep talk by the Head Of Department.Nothing quite formal but just a heart to heart sharing. The main crux of the topic was that "learning and education is not everything but the right attitude counts".Apart from being a fast learner and a worker with good ethics, good manners and tact are always an advantage. And his beliefs which I am sure many others will agree with is that we acquire 20% of our knowledge from formal learning while the balance of 80% is mostly informal learning that we gather through working experience.

The Head Of Department was even kind enough to share some of his ideas about Ubiquitous Learning which is the topic for my final project.ULearning as ubiquitous stands for is very versatile and encompass learning at any place and any time.Every moment in our daily life we learn something new!

In essence it was an enjoyable learning trip. There was fun amidst sharing of knowledge and experience. Not just academic wise but also towards the softer side of job and work etiquette and attitudes which cannot really be learnt from books. It also helped us to apply what we learnt in theory in the practical sense in the real world of ISD working life.A true learning experience!
